National and International Curriculum

Three Educational Pathways. One Culture of Excellence.

For more than 25 years, our mission has been to bring academic excellence together with a holistic approach, placing personal growth and wellbeing at the heart of every student’s educational experience.

Guided by this vision, OGIS has founded and developed a group of educational institutions united by shared values and a common commitment to quality.

Depending on the campus and stage of education, schools within the group offer three educational pathways:

  • The Romanian National Curriculum, with a strong focus on bilingualism;
  • The Cambridge International Curriculum, taught in English and shaped by a global outlook;
  • The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) for the final two years of secondary school.

All three pathways are enriched by OGIS LIFE SKILLS, our experiential personal development programme designed to prepare students for life. Whichever pathway they choose, every child is known, heard and encouraged to fulfil their potential.

The Romanian National Curriculum

– Academic Excellence with a Pathway to Bilingualism

The programme meets the requirements of Romania’s Ministry of Education and Research and provides a strong, balanced academic foundation.

The Romanian National Curriculum is offered across the following stages:

  • Primary Education – ages 6+ (Preparatory Grade to Grade 4)
  • Lower Secondary Education – ages 11+ (Grades 5–8)
  • Upper Secondary Education – ages 15+ (Grades 9–12)

Throughout Primary and Lower Secondary, students benefit from intensive English tuition, using the language in communication activities, interdisciplinary projects, presentations and reading. These experiences progressively build functional bilingualism and the confidence to communicate and learn in both Romanian and English.

Beginning in the earliest years, intensive English study develops the vocabulary and fluency students need to make a confident transition to Olga Gudynn Bilingual High School, where they can study subjects in English.

Teaching combines interactive methods, technology and hands-on learning, nurturing analytical thinking, independence and personal responsibility.

At OGIS in Pipera, students can follow the complete Romanian National Curriculum pathway, from Primary through Lower Secondary to Upper Secondary. Primary classes are also offered at the OGIS Bucharest Campus.

Cambridge International Curriculum

– A Global Pathway that Opens New Worlds and Shapes the Future

Institutions within OGIS authorised by Cambridge International Education offer the complete Cambridge Pathway:

  • Cambridge Early Years – ages 3+
  • Cambridge Primary – ages 5+
  • Cambridge Lower Secondary – ages 11+
  • Cambridge IGCSE – ages 14+
  • Cambridge International AS & A Level – ages 16+

English is the principal language of teaching, learning and communication.

Students are guided by experienced international teachers who are passionate about education and committed to every child’s progress. Modern teaching methods encourage them to question, reason, investigate and apply their learning in meaningful ways.

Student wellbeing is at the heart of the Cambridge experience. Academic rigour is balanced by a safe, supportive environment in which teachers nurture every student’s academic progress, emotional wellbeing and social development.

Alongside learning in English, students may also study German, Spanish or French, depending on their stage of education and the provision available.

While Romanian is not a core component of the Cambridge Curriculum, Romanian is taught alongside the Cambridge Curriculum as an additional subject. For Romanian children, it maintains a strong connection to their mother tongue and culture. For international students, it supports everyday communication, helps them engage with the culture of the country in which they study, and strengthens their sense of belonging within the community where they build friendships.

The complete Cambridge Pathway, from Early Years through to AS & A Level, is offered exclusively at OGIS in Pipera.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

– Academic Rigour, Independence and a Global Perspective

In the final two years of secondary school, students may choose the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP), a rigorous and balanced international programme recognised by universities around the world.

Students study six subjects across different areas of knowledge and complete the programme’s three core components:

  • Theory of Knowledge (TOK) – critical thinking and reflection;
  • Extended Essay (EE) – independent academic research;
  • Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) – creative, physical and community engagement.

The IB DP develops independence, intellectual curiosity and research skills, preparing students for university and adult life.

The IB Diploma Programme is offered at OGIS in Pipera.

Beyound Academic Results

An OGIS education is enriched by artistic and sporting activities, environmental and humanitarian projects, and international UNESCO initiatives.

Within a warm and inclusive community, every student is encouraged to discover their passions, express their ideas with confidence and grow into a balanced, responsible young person, ready for the future.
