Extracurricular Activities
The school strives to multilaterally shape the personality of students so that it may prepare them for life while taking into account the prospects of the foreseeable future and paying due attention to the richness of forms on which contemporary human communication is structured. In school, students not only have to answer questions, but they also learn the art of communication: to initiate and carry on a conversation, to express their views, to get involved in problem solving, to argue their ideas and attitudes, and to internalize the value of communication.
Therefore, our school does not remain indifferent to the great wealth of extracurricular forms of education, forms that cover a wide spectrum of experiences that cannot be included in the daily school curriculum. Thematic excursions and visits are an important teaching tool because they offer the students the opportunity to observe, research, and directly know a wide variety of historical or geographical points of interest and students are able to more clearly understand the connection between theory and practice. During these trips, students consolidate their rules of behavior in different situations (in the forest, in the museum, in the theater, in the restaurant), rules that will help them throughout their lives. Thus, every year, according to the subject of study of certain disciplines, we organize a series of thematic visits to: museums, historical monuments, the Zoo, the Botanical Garden, animal farms, vegetable markets, parks, theaters, and other areas of interest outside the city.
We have organized various ecological projects to encourage children to care about nature. Because we know that ecology is the art of living beautifully. Our children are educated to love nature so that they will respect it and protect it.
Extracurricular activities in the field of ecology allow children to directly experience a number of concepts that would otherwise only be covered in theory by biology or nature science classes in schools. Entrepreneurial projects are also an important part of this endeavor. We want to train students so that they are prepared for life and, since life unfolds on two levels (one being material and rigorous and another being characterized by creativity and intellectual freedom), we use different projects to teach children to be responsible, to appreciate work, and to work effectively as a part of a team.
OGIS emphasizes the importance of the role that parents play in their child’s education. Therefore, throughout the school year, we organize a series of events dedicated to them:
– Events Organized for Parents: Halloween Carnival, Christmas Shows, March 8th, End of the School Year Festivities, Father’s Day, Barbeque, Easter Bazaar etc.
– Workshops in which parents work with children: creation of different ornaments, creating artistic works that we exhibit in art exhibitions organized by OGIS, etc. These workshops are an excellent opportunity for parents who have a busy schedule to actively spend time with their children and get directly involved in their lives and concerns.
